City Begins Lincoln Park Drilling to Support Future Irrigation Well

Starting June 15, the City will begin exploratory drilling around the perimeter of Lincoln Park as part of the Downtown Civic Campus project. This work will help determine the best location for a new irrigation well that will serve Lincoln Park and surrounding campus landscaping. Using well water for irrigation instead of treated drinking water is a smarter, more cost-effective use of resources, helping reduce irrigation costs while preserving potable water for uses where it is needed most.
To identify the best location for a productive well, crews will complete a series of vertical bores around the park the week of June 15. This testing is necessary because the well can potentially be placed in several areas of the park, and the additional information will guide final design and placement. The well permit allows for up to 350 gallons per minute, making it an important long-term investment in efficient water use for the project.
Residents and visitors should expect limited, temporary impacts near active work areas. Sidewalk closures will only occur near the current bore location to keep pedestrians safe, and vehicle traffic is not expected to be affected. Some nearby parking spaces will be temporarily coned off so contractors can access drilling equipment.
