Happy World Sparrow Day!

March 20 is World Sparrow Day, a good reminder of why natural areas matter in our growing city.
At Arroyos del Sol Natural Area, birds like the lark sparrow and song sparrow are part of a larger story about habitat, stewardship, and quality of life. Sparrows may be small, but they help signal the health and diversity of the landscape around them.
For a city, natural areas do important work. As our Natural Areas & Trails team explains, these areas protect wildlife habitat, provide residents with opportunities to connect with nature close to home, and help preserve the community's open character as Greeley grows. These spaces support both people and wildlife.
Stay tuned for updates on when the natural area will re-open so you can get out and see and hear these birds yourself. Until then, check out this video footage to see various birds found at Arroyos del Sol, including sparrows.
