A New Name for a New Era: Introducing Gallop

Greeley's public transit system has a new name, and a lot of work went into choosing it.
The journey to Gallop started in early 2024. That's when the City of Greeley began asking residents, riders, and community partners a big question: what should the future of mobility look like? The answers shaped the Mobility Development Plan, approved by Greeley City Council in March 2025. With that plan in place, the City teamed up with Studio Six Branding (specialists in transit rebranding) to build a new identity for the system. The rebranding project officially launched in September 2025.
What the community told us
Before anyone suggested a single name, the team listened. Three workshops were held: one with regional partners along the US-34 corridor, one with UNC students and community members and one online. A public survey through Speak Up Greeley brought in more than 70 responses.
People from all corners of the community weighed in: riders, students, nonprofits, businesses, people with disabilities, neighboring cities, and regional planning partners.
Three ideas kept coming up:
- Connection matters. People want transit that brings the community together — not just a way to get from point A to point B.
- Keep it simple and reliable. Riders want a system that's easy to understand and shows up when it says it will.
- Transit should create freedom. When it works well, the bus isn't a last resort. It's a way to live your life on your own terms.
These ideas guided every decision that came next.
How Gallop was chosen
Studio Six started with more than 30 possible names. Those were narrowed down through community feedback, a public idea board, and legal checks. Six names made the short list, and then three finalists moved forward: Gallop, NoCo Motiv, and SYNC.
Each name was judged on five things: how well it fit multiple travel modes, how well it could grow with the region, whether it could be trademarked, how it felt emotionally, and how well it matched what the community said it wanted.
Gallop came out on top.
SYNC looked too much like the current GET brand. The community wanted something that felt like a real change. NoCo Motiv had some interesting design ideas but didn't capture a sense of movement. Gallop did — and its bold, colorful look stood out from every other transit system in the region.
Why Gallop
The name works in a lot of ways at once:
- It fits all kinds of travel. Gallop isn't tied to one type of transportation. It can grow as new services, routes, and connections are added.
- It's rooted in Greeley but built for the region. The name captures the energy of a growing Northern Colorado while staying connected to the city at its heart.
- It looks ahead. The visual identity — bright orange, flowing lines, and a custom logo where the letters connect — signals a modern system ready for what's next.
- It feels right. People described Greeley and Northern Colorado as friendly, bold, and pioneering. Gallop was designed to feel the same way: warm, welcoming, and confident.
- It can grow. Gallop works for future routes, new services, and partnerships with neighboring communities, not just what exists today.
Built by this community, for this community
"This is about more than a new name or look," said Michelle Johnson, Mobility Manager for the City of Greeley. "It's about creating a transit identity that reflects where Greeley is headed — connected, innovative, and ready to serve riders today and into the future."
The rebranding engagement and design effort was paid for through federal grant funding. The cost of rebranding bus stops and vehicles will be entirely covered through a public private partnership with Lamar. By partnering with Lamar, the City of Greeley is saving taxpayers more than $425,000. Under this arrangement, the City will be refurbishing existing bus shelters and benches, which is an additional savings of approximately $225,000. With this strategy, the City can launch a fresh brand, increasing visibility of our mobility services while minimizing costs on our local taxpayers.
Gallop is more than a new name. It's a sign that Greeley's transit system is ready for what comes next.
