What is Vision Zero?
Vision Zero is a method of improving traffic safety with the goal of eliminating all fatal and serious injury traffic crashes. It began in Sweden in the 1990s to eliminate traffic deaths and has now been endorsed by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
More than 45 communities in the U.S. have adopted the Vision Zero approach, and hundreds more are currently in the process of planning. Vision Zero is based on the Safe System Approach, which follows several guiding principles to provide a holistic safety approach for all forms of transportation.

By using the Safe System strategy of Education, Enforcement, Engineering, and Emergency Services, the Vision Zero method has dramatically reduced traffic deaths where it has been applied comprehensively and fully reached its objective in some pioneer cities.
