16th Street Enhancement Project - South Side Progress Continues (updated 9/29)
Crews continue to make steady progress, with demolition and grading moving westward. Drainage installation is now underway at 9th Avenue, and Saturday work has resumed to help keep the project on track.
Work Complete
- 16th Street is open to westbound traffic and pedestrian traffic. Traffic signals have been removed or bagged, and the intersections are now partial roundabouts. 
- Remaining light poles have been removed on the south side of 16th Street and temporary lighting is in place 
- Sidewalk and curb & gutter demolition on the south side of the street is complete from 8th to 10th Avenue 
Work Ongoing
- Sidewalk and curb & gutter demolition on the southern half of the street is underway beginning at 10th Avenue and heading west towards 11th Avenue 
- Underground drainage piping and manhole installation at 16th Street and 9th Avenue 
Upcoming Work
- Underground electrical and irrigation installation from 8th to 9th Avenues 
- Curb & gutter installation from 8th to 9th Avenue 
Project Timeline
- Work on the north side of the street is complete 
- Construction is progressing on the south side of the street, with about 8% of this stage complete. 
- Final landscaping and public art installations will occur in Spring 2026, once weather and planting conditions allow.
