16th Street Enhancement Project
Officials are designing possible improvements for the 16th Street corridor between 7th and 11th avenues aiming to:
- Slow the speed on 16th Street to improve safety
- Create a walkable environment
- Revitalize the corridor
- Maintain as much parking as possible
- Increase the connection between UNC and downtown
Project Background
On the edge of the downtown area and the northern side of the University of Northern Colorado campus, 16th Street needs to support many forms of transportation.
Much of the area lacks bike facilities, and sidewalks are too narrow. This vital corridor also needs more landscaping and consistent designs to support all the different businesses and activities that use 16th Street.

The 16th Street enhancements project is focused on 7th Avenue to 11th Avenue. This is a vital east-west corridor in the heart of eastern Greeley. When this project is complete, this area will be an exciting new destination for locals, students, and visitors to experience the shops and restaurants and create walkable connections to UNC.
This project is the next step in an ongoing discussion over the past several years. The community helped us create a vision and conceptual designs, and now we want your feedback to shape the final design for construction (anticipated for Fall 2023).
This corridor is part of a broad master plan for revitalization projects for the downtown Greeley landscape. This project will provide safer streets, vital connections, and help local businesses to thrive.
Join the conversation:
Businesses and property owners along the corridor will play a vital role in helping to shape the future landscape of the area. So will the public and community organizations, boards, and commissions. In support of project goals, the project team will:
- Employ the assistance of resident experts
- Hold community events
- Create opportunities to listen and learn from the community

July - August 2023: Advance
this is an upcoming stage for 16th Street Enhancement ProjectThe final design, made possible only through critical community and stakeholder input, will be presented to the community. The project will progress to construction. Construction will inevitably have some negative impacts on commuting or access. To mitigate these impacts, the project team will seek information and input from local businesses, property owners, and community members throughout the process to hear concerns and develop a plan that has the least impact.
Level of Engagement
Consult, Involve & Collaborate: the project is already well-defined, however, there are important elements that the community can provide input on to make this corridor a safe, beautiful, and connected part of downtown Greeley.
