Box Culvert Work Starts on 9th Avenue

Crews are now placing rebar forms for the new underground stormwater box culvert at 9th Avenue and 12th Street. The reinforcing steel will strengthen the structure as crews prepare to pour the culvert’s sides, followed later by its ceiling.

The finished culvert will be 5 feet tall and 12 feet wide—about the width of three golf carts parked side by side—and will move more stormwater beneath downtown streets during heavy rainfall to help reduce flood risk.

Because the work area is constrained by the downtown location, crews are constructing the culvert directly inside the excavation rather than installing pre-built sections.

Monthly stormwater utility fees help fund this project and other maintenance and capacity improvements throughout Greeley.
