Share Your Vision for the City

Thank you all for sharing your vision for our community! 40 of you have offered ideas since we launched the project in June. Here's a recap of what we've heard from you:

Traffic safety and street maintenance is a priority

• Some feel that roundabouts are a safer, less expensive, and more efficient option for traffic calming, and others question this
• Many neighborhood streets are bumpy and need maintenance
• Speed limits are inconsistent – some feel too fast, and some feel too slow
• Many sidewalks need improvement
• Some people feel unsafe riding their bikes, even when there is a bike lane – lanes should have clear markers
• The diagonal parking on the 1500 block of 9^th Street is difficult to interpret/understand
• When there is a designated turn lane, it would help to have designated turn arrows to help with traffic control

We should be thoughtful about how we grow and develop

• To avoid gentrification, Greely should embrace the working class and farming roots/identity
• Partnerships with UNC may be the key to successful downtown development
• Building a grocery store in north Greeley is an important step
• The City should consider allowing marijuana sales and dispensaries
• The City should invest in both new and old neighborhoods
• Some feel that high-density housing should stay in the west, not in established (Downtown) neighborhoods; others feel that development should move east, as it is getting crowded moving west
• The City should invest in/update north and east Greeley – there are limited businesses, schools and affordable housing available
• Greeley should focus on converting and using empty commercial buildings – for example, Greeley Mall and the State Farm building have potential for investment
• The City should focus on incentivizing the creation of a commercial zone near promontory for weekend entertainment (movie theater, restaurants, splash park, shopping, etc.)
• Upgrading the areas around UNC would be beneficial for everyone

Affordable housing is a priority

• Providing people with options for buying affordable homes is critical
• To avoid segregating Greeley geographically by income, the city needs to invest in affordable housing in all directions

Neighborhoods should be safe and well-maintained

• Homeowners and businesses are responsible for maintaining their properties; the City is responsible for documenting and enforcing the code
• Wheelchair access is important and often overlooked

Green spaces, parks, and family-friendly attractions are an important community asset

• People appreciate picnic tables and shade in parks
• Building green spaces along arterial roads could help with pedestrian safety and be more visually appealing
• It would be great to have family-friendly amenities like a rock-climbing gym, splash pads, outdoor ice skating, tubing, roller skating rink, etc., downtown
• Fishing options at local lakes would be great
