The City of Greeley is doing a historic survey of the Sunrise neighborhood. Sunrise Neighborhood is bordered by railroad tracks to the west, 5th Street to the north, the Cache la Poudre River and Highway 85 to the east, and 16th Street to the south. This survey will collect information about 544 properties and the history related to those properties. This will help identify which places might be important enough to be on local, state, or national historic lists and registers.
Whether you know a little or a lot about a property or the neighborhood, we want to hear from you! If you have a story or experience from the neighborhood, let us know about it. Do you or your family have old photos of your house or the area? We’d love to see them!
Want to go even deeper? The City of Greeley completed a Historical and Architectural Context Study in 2010, funded in part by a State Historical Fund grant from History Colorado. This report is available by contacting the Historic Preservation Office at hpo@greeleygov.com.
Click the “Stories” tab to share your experiences in the Sunrise Neighborhood. Every place has a story, and your stories are an important part of Greeley’s history.
This project is partly funded by a grant from the History Colorado State Historical Fund.

Longtime resident Nickie Archibeque recently shared memories of growing up in the Sunrise neighborhood and the area between 5th and 16th Streets. Where she and her siblings spent their days walking, riding bikes, swimming and simply being together with friends and neighbors.
Nickie also talked about how connected the neighborhood felt, with kids and families looking out for one another and spending time outdoors, especially around Sunrise Park (now known as Charlie and Laura Archibeque Park).
And speaking of the park: Nickie’s sister, Lori, remembers landing her very first job at the newly opened pool. She worked as a basket girl and later served as a lifeguard for the baby pool.
We’d love to hear from you, Sunrise residents: What are your favorite memories from the neighborhood? Sunrise Park, the pool, bike rides, block friends, or anything else that takes you back? Share your story in the comments and help us keep Sunrise’s history alive.
