The City of Greeley is doing a historic survey of the Sunrise neighborhood. Sunrise Neighborhood is bordered by railroad tracks to the west, 5th Street to the north, the Cache la Poudre River and Highway 85 to the east, and 16th Street to the south. This survey will collect information about 544 properties and the history related to those properties. This will help identify which places might be important enough to be on local, state, or national historic lists and registers.

Whether you know a little or a lot about a property or the neighborhood, we want to hear from you! If you have a story or experience from the neighborhood, let us know about it. Do you or your family have old photos of your house or the area? We’d love to see them!

Want to go even deeper? The City of Greeley completed a Historical and Architectural Context Study in 2010, funded in part by a State Historical Fund grant from History Colorado. This report is available by contacting the Historic Preservation Office at hpo@greeleygov.com.

Click the “Stories” tab to share your experiences in the Sunrise Neighborhood. Every place has a story, and your stories are an important part of Greeley’s history.

This project is partly funded by a grant from the History Colorado State Historical Fund.

Tell Us Your Story About Sunrise Neighborhood

The City of Greeley received a State Historical Fund grant from History Colorado to conduct a historic resource survey in the Sunrise neighborhood, specifically in the area bound by 5th and 16th Streets and approximately 6th Avenue and U.S. Highway 85. The survey will gather information and document the history and architectural character of 544 select properties within the area. The survey will also help identify properties eligible for designation on the Greeley Historic Register. In addition to the survey, Greeley's Historic Preservation team is asking current and former residents or visitors to share what they know about properties and buildings in the survey area.

  • Know a little or a lot about a home in the survey area? Let us know.
  • Do you know when the building was built? Do you happen to know the name of the builder or architect? How about the names of the previous owners? Have there been any alterations or remodels to the property? We want to hear all about it!
  • Maybe what you know isn't about a building but an experience you, a friend, or a family member have had. Click the stories tab and tell us all about it.

You can also include images, videos, and links to tell your story. Stories are a critical piece of history that must be shared and captured.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. We will add what you have shared to our ongoing historical documents. If you recall something you forgot to share, please don't hesitate to visit the Speak Up Greeley website again.

    Good Ol' Sunrise

by Gii Astorga, 7 days ago

When I think of Sunrise (Now Charlie and Laura Archibeque) Park, I immediately think of the pool with the diving boards. It was a great place to cool out during hot summer afternoons. Memories come from family but moreso from the "Fun In The Sun" program at Rodarte Center. When the pool became a splash park, I felt like part of my childhood went with it. But I also remember a few family picnics here as well as playing on the small skate park that was on the NorthWest corner.

During high school, we ended up moving into the Lincoln... Continue reading

    Neighborhood Co-operation

by Marshall Clough, 5 months ago
My wife Tony and I lived in Sunrise at 410 Eleventh Street in the 1980s. We kept animal pets in our large backyard--ducks, rabbits, and a tortoise. The backyard was fenced, so we usually had no problem with escapees, but rarely someone would leave a gate open. On a Monday we noticed that our drake Menna was missing, so we went around asking neighbors if they had seen him. Everyone was sympathetic, but nobody had seen Menna. However, Keith McNeill, who lived a block west of us, had a suggestion; he knew that another neighbor, who lived on the corner... Continue reading
