Sunrise neighbors, do you remember when everyone knew everyone?
Longtime resident Nickie Archibeque recently shared memories of growing up in the Sunrise neighborhood and the area between 5th and 16th Streets. Where she and her siblings spent their days walking, riding bikes, swimming and simply being together with friends and neighbors.
Nickie also talked about how connected the neighborhood felt, with kids and families looking out for one another and spending time outdoors, especially around Sunrise Park (now known as Charlie and Laura Archibeque Park).
And speaking of the park: Nickie’s sister, Lori, remembers landing her very first job at the newly opened pool. She worked as a basket girl and later served as a lifeguard for the baby pool.
We’d love to hear from you, Sunrise residents: What are your favorite memories from the neighborhood? Sunrise Park, the pool, bike rides, block friends, or anything else that takes you back? Share your story in the comments and help us keep Sunrise’s history alive.
Thank you for your contribution!
