Greeley is investing in a stronger, more vibrant future for all of us.
We’re modernizing the essential infrastructure that keeps our community running—today and for generations to come. The Downtown Greeley Revitalization Infrastructure Project covers nearly 20 blocks with upgrades to water lines, sanitary sewer, stormwater, roads, sidewalks, and streetscapes.Construction begins in Summer 2026 and will be completed in phases.
Starting in our historic downtown core allows us to tackle the oldest and most critical parts of our underground systems first. These improvements will deliverreliable services, better flood protection, safer streets, and a more walkable, welcoming downtown that supports local businesses and community events for years ahead.
Stormwater Improvements
New, larger stormwater infrastructure
New stormwater inlets with more capacity at key intersections
Significantly increased drainage capacity
Why this matters to you:These upgrades will dramatically improve flood protection and public safety. By better managing stormwater—including handling 100-year storm events—the downtown area will experience fewer flooded streets, reduced property damage risks, and greater peace of mind during heavy rains. This strengthens long-term resiliency so downtown stays safer and more functional for everyone.
Water & Sewer Improvements
Replacement of aging pipes (some over 100 years old)
More reliable water and sewer service
Why this matters to you:Much of downtown’s existing infrastructure is old and undersized, leading to potential breaks, low water pressure, and service disruptions. These replacements will provide a more dependable water service and efficient sewer systems for homes and businesses. They also build the necessary capacity to support future growth.
Roadway Improvements
Smoother, longer-lasting pavement
Enhanced intersections for safer driving
Why this matters to you:These improvements to our roads will make driving through downtown smoother, safer, and more reliable. Better pavement creates a more comfortable ride and reduces wear and tear on vehicles, while upgraded intersections help improve traffic flow and increase safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Streetscape & Mobility Improvements
Upgraded sidewalks and accessibility features
Beautiful streetscape enhancements
Better connections for walking and biking
Why this matters to you:These changes will make downtown easier to navigate on foot or by bike and more welcoming for everyone. Improved sidewalks will help people reach local shops, restaurants, and destinations more comfortably, while enhanced streetscapes create safer, more attractive public spaces that support a vibrant downtown experience.
Building the Foundation for Downtown Revitalization
These underground infrastructure upgrades are essential before many of the exciting above-ground improvements (new gathering spaces, storefront enhancements, etc.) can happen. By investing now, we’re creating a solid foundation that avoids bigger problems and higher costs down the road while preparing Greeley for continued growth.
What to Expect During Construction
We’re committed to keeping disruptions as minimal as possible:
Downtown stays open — businesses will remain accessible
Pedestrian and traffic access will be maintained
All scheduled downtown events will continue as planned
Construction will occur in phases
Temporary traffic changes, parking adjustments, and detours will happen at times
We’ll keep you informed with regular updates, schedules, and detour maps right here on this page.
This is more than infrastructure work—it’s an investment in a safer, stronger, and more vibrant Greeley that we can all be proud of. Thank you for your patience and support as we build a better downtown together!
