The City of Greeley is making improvements the Poudre River Trail. Our goal is to create a safer, more comfortable, and more resilient trail for everyone to enjoy.

Why We Need to Close the Trail

Construction on the “Narrows” section of the Poudre River Trail at the end of November. This is necessary because there has been significant erosion impacting the trail and riverbank. Here’s what we plan to do:

  • Widen the trail from 6 feet to 12 feet. This change will make the trail safer and more comfortable for all users.
  • Stablize the riverbank and trail. This will improve and enhance long-term trail stability , support public safety, and make the trail more resilient to future weather and environmental events..

The affected section of the traill and construction is expected to last several months and will be closed during that time. Nearby residential neighborhoods may experience temporary traffic changes due toconstruction activity. Make sure to plan ahead and watch for updates about closure dates, duration and access.

A Stronger Trail for the Future

While construction will cause some temporary disruptions, and affect the surrounding neighborhood, the result will be worth it. This project will help address ongoing erosion and improve the long-term stability of the Poudre River Trail.

    The City will host a community open house Thursday, October 1, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Poudre Learning Center, InSTEM Building to provide information about the project and answer questions from residents.

    City staff will be available to discuss:

    • The erosion stabilization project and construction activities

    • Expected neighborhood impacts and the upcoming trail closure

    • Wildfire prevention and mitigation

    • Vegetation management on natural areas
