Good Ol' Sunrise
When I think of Sunrise (Now Charlie and Laura Archibeque) Park, I immediately think of the pool with the diving boards. It was a great place to cool out during hot summer afternoons. Memories come from family but moreso from the "Fun In The Sun" program at Rodarte Center. When the pool became a splash park, I felt like part of my childhood went with it. But I also remember a few family picnics here as well as playing on the small skate park that was on the NorthWest corner.
During high school, we ended up moving into the Lincoln Square apartments where my mother still lives today. There were times it didn't feel safe and had a few instances of dangerous activities, but for the most part, it was great, especially having such great people in the Archibeque family be there for the community.
After high school, I took a job with the City Parks and Recreation as a site supervisor for Fun In The Sun, and there we spent most of our time within Sunrise Park. We did arts and crafts in the old gazebo, and played actives and sports in the grass. It was a great place for kids to have something to do during the summer.
Things that come to mind when I think about the neighborhood is Moreno's and of course the Archibeque family (all of them!)
