Neighborhood Co-operation
My wife Tony and I lived in Sunrise at 410 Eleventh Street in the 1980s. We kept animal pets in our large backyard--ducks, rabbits, and a tortoise. The backyard was fenced, so we usually had no problem with escapees, but rarely someone would leave a gate open. On a Monday we noticed that our drake Menna was missing, so we went around asking neighbors if they had seen him. Everyone was sympathetic, but nobody had seen Menna. However, Keith McNeill, who lived a block west of us, had a suggestion; he knew that another neighbor, who lived on the corner just southeast of the park, had a number of ducks in his own backyard. So, on Wednesday, Tony and I walked over there, and found Menna with a many other drakes and ducks. The friendly owner of the house told us that Menna had appeared several days before and he had taken care of him, assuming his owners would show up sooner or later. (Unfortunately, I do not remember our duck-owning neighbor's name.) Menna recognized us (he loved Tony), and my wife carried him home.
